Dear Potential Bidders,
Nutrition International/NI (formerly The Micronutrient Initiative/MI) is implementing MITRA Youth, a project supporting Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFAS) for prevention and reduction of Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA) among school-going adolescent girls, in selected districts in two provinces of Indonesia: East Java and East Nusa Tenggara (ENT). MITRA Youth is funded by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Australia.
MITRA Youth is implemented in 10 districts in East Java and 10 districts in ENT. In 2018, NI conducted advocacy meeting at province and district level to sensitize the WIFAS program. The meeting at province level was attended by stakeholders from health, education, religious office, social welfare from the targeted districts. WIFAS program is mostly perceived as the responsibility of the Health Office, even though it should be also the responsibilities of Education, Religious Affairs and Social Welfare Offices. After the advocacy meetings and capacity building supported by NI, the involvement of non-health sectors were improved and districts have started activities to strengthen the implementation of program.
March 2020, COVID-19 pandemic hits Indonesia among many countries in the world. As per October 8, 2020 there are 320,564 confirmed positive cases with 244.060 people have recover and 11.580 people died of COVID-19 virus. Currently, many provinces are still implementing large-scale social restriction policy to minimize the spread of COVID-19 which results in significant reduction on domestic and international travel, bans on group and crowd gatherings and the closure of schools, factories, restaurants and public spaces. Such measure affected health services. According to recent online survey conducted by UNICEF of more than 6,000 young Indonesians, nearly 90% of girls have stopped taking iron tablet during the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic is stopping essential nutritional services for adolescent in Indonesia and this has a major impact on their nutritional status.
To minimize disruption and loss of learning, the government developed a learning from home guidance based on global guidelines and established distance learning alternatives through online, TV and print materials. Alongside the delivery of these programmes, the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC) contextualized the global framework for Reopening Schools to local context to safeguard the health and safety of both children and teachers when reopening schools. Due to a continued increase in the number of cases, only schools in areas with low risks of local transmission of COVID-19 that met strict requirements could reopen.
Many achievements and improvements on WIFA program in East Java and East Nusa Tenggara attained throughout MITRA Youth project. However pandemic situation impacted a set back towards those achievements. Taken into consideration NI together with DHO would like to ensure WIFA program is sustainable despite the pandemic circumstances.
Hence, in order to conduct advocacy meeting at district level in East Java and ENT, NI seeks support an event organizer/agency to facilitate the implementation of the advocacy meeting.
