Background

Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international medical and humanitarian, non-profit organization acting in accordance with the principles of humanitarian assistance, impartiality, neutrality, medical ethics and medical confidentiality, independent from any political, religious, military or economic authority  In compliance with MSF's charter and based on an independent assessment of needs, MSF provides medical and humanitarian assistance to populations in distress without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender or political convictions, in the contexts of epidemics, endemic diseases, natural disasters and conflicts. The humanitarian and impartial nature of MSF's action and operational principles is recognized and respected by the Parties as a requirement for and condition of MSF's activities.

Main Purpose

Defining, coordinating and monitoring all the IEC( Information, Education, Communication) Health Promotion activities in the project and promoting MSF services according to MSF principles, protocols and standards in order to increase the knowledge of the target population around their health, the support of preventive activities and the collaboration to improve the services 

 

Responsibility

Defining and updating the HP strategy and related activities through annual project plan, budget and logical framework.   Assessing knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of the target group on health and analyzing the project context (local culture, traditions, habits, health perception) to adapt health activities and support the social mapping (villages, populations, actors).   Assessing, developing and adapting HP materials according to the needs of the project. Ensuring content and format have been pre-tested with target groups in order to ensure the adequacy, relevance, full understanding of the messages.  Leading focus-group discussions with target groups in order to ensure the adequacy, relevance, broadcasting and full awareness of the messages, ensuring they are adapted to the context, population and are innovative.   Liaising with other relevant actors (national and International NGO's, authorities) also involved in prevention activities, analyzing interventions and building cooperative relationships and advocacy, in order to enhance the influence of the campaigns and messages and to improve awareness among the targeted population  Ensuring regular collaboration and coordination with the MSF medical team, to guarantee that the HP is part of medical activities and contribute to the medical objectives of the project  Supervising the HP team and their activities, including planning and supervising the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development and internal communication) of the HP staff of the project. This will be done in close coordination with the HR department, the administration manager and project coordinator and according to MSF vision, values and procedures.   Participating in HP data collection and analysis for adapting strategy and activities and providing input in the project and mission reports.   Think innovatively, creatively and strategically in a complex environment  Responding to emergencies in the mission when required and feasible  Performs other tasks requested by the supervisor

 

Requirements
Education	Essential, university degree in social sciences, social communication, health promotion or related studies
Experience	Essential:  >5 years working experience in public health project and >2 years' experience in management coordination  Essential: Experience managing a team   Desirable: Fluent in written and spoken English  Desirable: Experience in graphic design is a plus
Languages	Bahasa and mission language essential.
Knowledge	Essential computer literacy (word, excel)
