PREPARATION CLASS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL

A. Background
Education is not only important, but it also the rights for every child. Many refugee children who live in Jakarta and greater area need proper education. As they live in Indonesia as the transit country, waiting for their resettlement to the third country that might take years, these parents are expecting to get education access for their children. They really hope to have education access to public school like any other children. Not only refugee children with parents from community, but also Un-Accompanied Separated Children (UASC) who live in Group Homes need Education.
Unfortunately, there are some gaps related with their enrolment in public schools in Indonesia. The biggest problem is language problem. Public schools in Indonesia are using Indonesian language in learning process, whereas refugee children only speak English or their mother language. On the other side, many teachers in public school, whether government-own or non-government-own schools, are not used communicate in English and therefore, cannot facilitate learning process in 2 language to accommodate the refugee children. The other problem is some of these refugee children have never had access to formal education in their country of origin, where in this particular situation, these children would have to acquire basic knowledge, such as alphabetic letters.
In order to help these children to access education in local public school, the CWS's PURE Program has been working together with local partner. Though its main goal is to enrol the refugee children to public schools, but to reach this goal, the gaps should be overcome. In 2021, PURE worked with Dompet Dhuafa (DD) to fill the gap. DD ran a project called School For Refugee System (SFR System), which is a program that prepare refugee children to be ready enrolled to public school. In this class, refugee children are taught basic Indonesian language and expected to be able to read, write, speak, and listen in Indonesian.
For education activity in 2022, the PURE Program has same objective as last year, which is to enrol refugee children to public schools, and will have to address the gap to ensure enrolment to public schools. Therefore, the Program is looking for an organization which is able to organize language preparation class(es) for enrolment to public school.
