The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations on behalf of the German Government.
The Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains in Indonesia (SASCI) project, in collaboration with its main government partner, Ministry of Agriculture (specifically the Directorate General of Estate Crops) supports the Government of Indonesia in its efforts to reduce GHG emissions from deforestation and forest degradation by promoting sustainable supply chains for selected agricultural commodities (primarily natural rubber and palm oil) by smallholder farmers in Kapuas Hulu district, West Kalimantan. The implementation of the project runs from February 2019 to December 2022. With the project aiming for a jurisdictional approach, the project objective "Establishment of deforestation-free agricultural supply chains for renewable commodities with global markets" shall ensure that legally protected forest ecosystems in Kapuas Hulu district in West Kalimantan province (the „jurisdiction") are not negatively affected in quality (degradation) or quantity (deforestation) by the production of selected agricultural commodities, predominantly natural rubber and palm oil.
The project comprises four main outputs: (1) Strengthening the capacity of smallholder farmers for sustainable production of palm oil and other agricultural commodities; (2) Increasing the capacity of government organisations, civil society actors and the private sector for sustainable agricultural commodity supply chain implementation, including conflict-resolution mechanisms; (3) Strengthening national initiatives for implementation of sustainable agricultural commodity supply chains; (4) Smallholder farmers in Kapuas Hulu district, West Kalimantan have access to global markets.
SASCI seeks one (1) qualified Indonesian fresh graduate or final year student from the local university in Indonesia, preferably from JABODETABEK to fill a traineeship position
Traineeship for Communication Support
A. Responsibilities
The overall responsibility of the trainee will be to support the communication strategy of SASCI while generating useful work experience. The traineeship aims to give the trainee an insight and first-hand experience of the work culture of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as well as an understanding of how a project is implemented, monitored, and communicated.
B. Tasks
- Participate in the planning, execution and documentations of meetings, workshops, training, seminars, and other events related to the project activities.
- Learn to organize and exchange information of the activities with project team members and development partners.
- Assist with the communication aspects of the project, including production of communication materials, publications, events, etc.
- Contribute to the compilation and management of all project relevant documents (technical reports, meeting notes, pictures, etc).
C. Required qualifications, competences and experience
Qualifications
· Freshly graduated bachelor's degree holder or active student in the last semester of studies relevant to the assignment, such as communication/ international relations/ media journalism/ environment/ agriculture, or other subjects.
Professional experience
· Basic knowledge of communication, media journalism, and some understanding on agriculture and/ or forestry will be a plus
· Good conceptual thinking, inter-personal relations, and communication
· Strong interest in working on issues related to sustainability and conservation
· Strong interest in crosscutting issues such as gender equality, conflict resolution and mediation, green economy, biodiversity, and climate change.
Other knowledge, additional competencies
· Good communication, organizational and information management skills
· Good English proficiency with very good writing skills
· Good command of Ms. Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
· Familiar with visual design programs
· Experienced in writing articles, blog, social-media caption, is an additional advantage
· Self-motivated, good time management skills and ability to work with minimum supervision
· Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.
