The Eijkman-Oxford Clinical Research Unit (EOCRU) in Jakarta opened in 2008 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology and the University of Oxford, to conduct collaborative research on infectious diseases impacting the health of Indonesians and residents of other Southeast Asian nations. University of Oxford also has a partnership (MoU) with Universitas Indonesia, and they jointly established the Universities of Indonesia and Oxford Clinical Research Laboratory (IOCRL) which is a facility dedicated to supporting collaborative clinical research between the universities. EOCRU is also part of the Oxford Tropical Network with research units in Africa, Asia and UK, and operates under the auspices of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam.

 

Clinical trials of chemotherapeutics, diagnostics, and vaccines for tropical infections of public health importance in Indonesia, principally malaria, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and other emerging and neglected tropical diseases, form the core of EOCRU's activities, with associated epidemiological, laboratory, and clinical research. EOCRU aims to have a positive and significant impact on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases to improve patient care in Indonesia and the region. This is being achieved via an expanding long-term research programme with our local hosts and partners, contributions to research training, and public engagement with science. Current EOCRU core staff includes 3 Oxford-employed international scientists, Indonesian scientists, administrative and finance support staff, and clinical trials support staff.

 

In conducting their work in Indonesia, EOCRU is assisted by Alliance for Emerging and Re-emerging Disease Threats in Asia Foundation (ALERTAsia), a local foundation assisting in research grant management and capacity building for local researchers.

 

EOCRU has a dynamic and innovative Public and Community Engagement team responsible for promoting the image and science of EOCRU in Indonesia and building bridges between researchers, the public and research community. The PCE department has a strong focus on digital engagement and youth involvement, as well as research and engagement interests in underserved communities.  Through ALERTAsia we are seeking for an experienced "Communication and Digital Engagement Officer". S/he will coordinate external and internal communications as well as media/digital engagement for the EOCRU programme. S/he will be working under the immediate guidance/mentorship of the PCE Manager, and under the guidance of Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) PCE Communications Manager in Viet Nam to develop a communication strategy, including the digital engagement plan, for EOCRU and delivery it in timely manner.

 

Role and Responsibility:

 

Social Media

1.   Developing social media plan based on digital engagement strategy, including Interaction design in pre and post activities as well as monitoring plan to gather feedback and ideas for upcoming events.

2.   Managing EOCRU existing Social Media accounts including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Spotify, including:

      regularly uploading new content and ensuring that EOCRU news, events, and publications are posted in a timely manner.

      maintaining the interactive communication between the researchers, technical experts, and the public.

      monitoring social media activity on accounts across the programme to ensure brand compliance and flagging areas of concern.

      monitoring and reporting analytic data on all social media accounts.

 

Press and Media Engagement

1.     Assist in developing press releases and preparing press conferences, when needed.

2.     Update and maintain EOCRU media partner lists.

3.     Prepare tailor-made press kits for selected events and compile the release after events.

4.     Monitor google alerts and local press for mentions of EOCRU activities and staff.

 

Website

1.     Continued maintenance and management EOCRU page in OUCRU website, including:

·         Content management including copywriting and editing.

·         Managing new page and section requests as required.

·         Analytics monitoring and reporting.

2.     Management of relationship with technical service provider and OUCRU IT.

 

Internal communications

1.   Managing and coordinating the needs for promotional items for the project/research (if required).

2.   Assist EOCRU communication tools such as annual reports, research factsheets, infographics, etc.

3.   Assist with coordination of cross-programme events and webinars, to ensure accessibility for all sites.

 

Video production

1.     Assist with filming and editing simple videos for internal and external communication and public engagement.

2.     Provide subtitles, captions, and branding on YouTube videos.

3.     Working with video production companies when required to produce high-quality videos, including:

·       Creating production briefs.

·       Mediating the discussion between researchers and the production companies.

·       Ensuring OUCRU brand compliance.

 

General coordination and administration

1.     Managing day-to-day PCE internship programmes, including coordinating intern's schedules, assignments, and their final evaluation.

2.     Prepare letters, budgets, purchase requests, and any document required for the development and delivery project activities.

3.     Identify relevant stakeholders to implement project activities.

4.     Responsible for logistics arrangements and financial process of all project activities in charge.

5.     Other tasks requested by PCE manager of EOCRU Head of Unit.

 

Qualification:

 

Essential criteria:

·       University degree in Communications, Design of Visual Communications, Digital Media, Arts or other relevant field.

·       At least 3 years proven extensive experience as a professional communications officer or digital engagement and public relations.

·       Excellent spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia and English, including copywriting and editing for social media purposes.

·       Excellent skill in graphic design software, communication apps, and social media content management.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in cross-cultural settings.

·       Experience monitoring analytics for websites and social media.

·       Highly organized, multi-task and able to work well under pressure.

·       Demonstrate ability and enthusiasm to collaborate with different partners and audience

·       Willingness to perform other tasks requested by Communications Manager

 

Preferred criteria:

·       Experience working in communications in non-profit agencies and/or health related institutions.

·       Existing personal networks with media and experience managing press releases in Indonesia.

·       Moderate ability with photography, video, and video editing skills.

·       Able to travel to rural areas in Indonesia with minimum facilities.

 

Benefits

The selected candidate will receive a one-year contract with possible extension, and remuneration package that includes annual leave, sick leave, THR, compensation money, optional private medical cover, BPJS Kesehatan, and not to mention fully paid income tax and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan (JAMSOSTEK). The salary shall be competitive and dependent upon qualifications and salary history.
