USAID Indonesia Urban Resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (USAID IUWASH Tangguh) is a five-year Activity to advance Indonesia's development goals in increasing access to safely managed drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in vulnerable urban areas and strengthening climate-resilient WASH services and water resources management. In close partnership with the Government of Indonesia (GOI), USAID IUWASH Tangguh supports Indonesia's work to achieve their Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets to ensure access to water and sanitation for all (SDG 6) and to make cities and settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable (SDG 11).

Using an Integrated Resilient IUWASH Systems (IRIS) approach—which aligns actions and incentives between upstream and downstream actors, while crowding in collaboration with key stakeholders through partnerships that accelerate the enabling environment and key enabling factors, such as finance and data—the USAID IUWASH Tangguh team will provide technical assistance to GOI, private sector and civil society stakeholders to achieve four objectives: 1) Strengthened WASH and WRM Sector Governance and Financing; 2) Increased Access to Poor-Inclusive, Climate-Resilient, Safely Managed Drinking Water and Sanitation Services; 3) Improved Water Resources Management to Support Resilient Drinking Water Services; and 4) Increased Adoption of Behaviors and Improved Women's Participation and Leadership Roles that Contribute to Improvements of WASH and WRM.

 

To achieve these outcomes USAID IUWASH Tangguh need high caliber candidates to fill the position of

 

Project Communication Specialist for Jakarta, National Office

 

The main purpose of this position is to implement the production process of communication materials for the overall program communication of USAID IUWASH Tangguh, both for online and offline platforms that is in line with the branding implementation plan, marking plan and strategic communication plan. The specialist will be responsible for developing and writing contents for stories and other communication products. The specialist will work with the program communication team and other technical specialists to contribute to the presentation of the great progress and results of the project as well as the success of the project through several human-interest stories.

 

The Project Communication Specialist will undertake the production process of communication and informational materials. S/He will be the project communication key-writer and will take a proactive approach to identify stories, relevant messages, and products that communicate the project's learning and results to various stakeholders. In coordination with the program communication manager, the specialist will support USAID IUWASH Tangguh outreach activities. Detailed activities as follows:

 

•         Coordinate closely with the project team at the national and regional levels to produce stories from the fields, success stories, newsletters, weekly highlights, and other publication contents for USAID IUWASH Tangguh activities and accomplishments.

•         Carry out the development of information, education, and communication (IEC) products with the proper USAID branding and marking policies in close coordination with the relevant technical teams.

•         Edit and proofread contents and correct for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and improve readability of USAID IUWASH Tangguh communication products in various online and offline platforms.

•         Collect information and lessons learned from the project activities and partners.

•         Work closely with the M&E team to ensure data provided in every communication product is valid and updated.

•         Manage the content management and updates of USAID IUWASH Tangguh website, including preparing monthly website metrics, and work with the website maintenance designated person to ensure smooth access to all website pages.

•         Work closely with the media engagement specialist to support the content management and updates of the USAID IUWASH Tangguh social media handles.

•         Support the finalization of key project deliverables, including Quarterly Progress Reports, Annual Progress Reports, Annual Workplans, Technical Reports, Info Sheets and similar communication materials.

•         Translate and adapt input materials for communication products.

•         Update database and list of project communication products.

•         Provide support for a broad range of public USAID IUWASH Tangguh events and outreach activities.

 

Minimum Qualification:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field such as mass communication, journalism, literature, or social sciences
  • Minimum 5 years of previous experience in the communication field; having knowledge on the WASH sector is an advantage.
  • Strong writing skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia for various content formats, e.g., stories from the fields, success stories, highlights, reports.
  • Experience in developing IEC products
  • Experience in editing and formatting reports and publications, both print and electronic.
  • Experience in managing and updating website and social media contents.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English with strong translation skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • High level of Microsoft Office competency (especially Word, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
  • Ability to work with various project staff to improve their write-ups when necessary.
  • Insightful and ability to think creatively and innovatively in developing the communication products to convey the project's ideas and outputs.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with quick turnarounds.

Candidates for all positions must have strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written, preferably fluent in English, reading and writing and advanced degrees (master's or higher) in relevant areas. Early applicants are encouraged.
