Background
Fauna & Flora International's-Indonesia Programme (FFI's-IP) has received funding support from Rainforest Trust (RFT) under the program "Expanding locally managed forests for conservation in Indonesia's biodiversity hotspots" (ELCONS). The project has a five-year duration and is implemented in five FFI's-IP conservation landscapes namely Aceh, Jambi, West Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, and West Papua with a total area of 307,975.34 hectares.
The main objective of the project is to expand locally managed forests for conservation in Indonesia's biodiversity hotspots. To achieve this main objective, the project will: (1) Provide enabling conditions for the gazetting of new protected areas through government designation of Essential Ecosystem Areas (KEE) and/or social forestry, (2) Implement and monitor new protected area management plans, and (3) Adapt and apply proven financial mechanisms to provide a long-term financial model.
In West Papua, the project will focus on developing social forestry through village forests and/or customary forests with a target area of 38,609.82 ha in Sorong Region. As the ELCONS project is a new theme for the FFI West Papua Program, a consultant is needed to help accelerate the implementation of the program especially in the preparation of social forestry gazettement, in accordance with the project objectives stated in the proposal. The consultant will carry out his/her duties, work in a team, collaborate and be responsible for achieving the targeted results as optimally as possible in line with the outline of FFI's-IP conservation program in West Papua.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Coordinate with the FFI West Papua team.
2. Socialize the designation and management of social forestry to communities at the project site.
3. Facilitate processes and discussions at government and local partner levels for social forestry planning and development.
4. Facilitate submission of village forest management proposal/plan to local/provincial/central government for approval.
5. Prepare the activity final report.
