As we are constantly expanding, we are currently hiring to fill the following position for our office in Jakarta:
Konservasi Indonesia (KI) as the main partner of Conservation International (CI) in Indonesia, believes that getting the right rules and incentives in place, the right policy framework, is essential to achieving our mission to "supports societies and organizations to care for nature and biodiversity, for the well-being of the Indonesian people". Policies to harness the immediate potential of natural climate solutions (NCS) are essential to addressing global climate change, and ambitious policies on how we manage biodiversity and the high seas will be developed over the next few years. In Indonesia, KI is supporting technical capacity at the national and local levels, as well as supporting the creation of the right rules, incentives and policy frameworks needed to harness the full potential of nature for climate action, as well as the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity and ocean.
This position will be responsible for legal research and analysis, policy recommendations, and engagement strategies, in line with KI's positions, to influence the design of domestic policy frameworks and enabling conditions for climate, biodiversity, and ocean. The manager will also be responsible to work well with internal and external stakeholders to achieve KI's policy objectives and implementation efforts, particularly with national and subnational government agencies. Additionally, the manager will also support KI's senior management team to provide legal counsel for organizational operations and fundraising efforts.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead legal research, regulatory review, legal drafting, policy writing, and policy engagement in Indonesia to influence the design of domestic policy frameworks and end enabling conditions for climate, biodiversity, ocean, sustainable finance, commodities, and other key topics.
- Work with senior staff to formulate policy options, position papers, proposals, and briefings and manage input from key stakeholders.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders, at the regional, national, and local level, on developing and implementing policy objectives.
- Manage daily relations with external stakeholders, particularly national and subnational government agencies, and ensure relevant policy information is disseminated and serves to engage decision-makers and favorably influence KI's policy and strategic goals.
- Report on partner engagement and policy implementation efforts.
- Assist in legal counsel for organizational operation and support fundraising efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor's degree in law, public policy, international affairs, environment, or a related field.
· 4-6 years of experience in developing and managing legal and public policy initiatives.
· Understanding of government processes and the overall policy engagement environment in Indonesia.
· Working knowledge of environment, climate, biodiversity, and/or ocean policy.
· Strong legal analysis, regulatory review, legal drafting, and policy writing skills in Bahasa and English.
· Fluency in written and spoken in Bahasa and English.
· Experience in engaging a variety of external partners and stakeholders in governments, bilateral and multilateral institutions, development organizations, and NGOs.
· Ability to effectively communicate complex information to a diverse audience and strong presentation skills
· Excellent time management skills and ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
· Master's degree in climate or environmental law, or a related field.
· Established relationships in the climate change and/or conservation policy community.
· Working knowledge of international biodiversity and ocean policy.
