The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. Its corporate objective is to improve people's living conditions on a sustainable basis. GIZ has been working in Indonesia since 1975 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

In Indonesia, GIZ is implementing various energy projects under the umbrella of the Energy Programme Indonesia/ASEAN. These projects are commissioned by mainly the German government, represented by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). A communications team is supporting communication, information & knowledge management and event related activities. 

To join this communications team, the Energy Programme seeks one (1) motivated and qualified Indonesian candidate to join as Communications, Event & Knowledge Management Advisor. 

Within the Energy Programme, the Advisor will be responsible to support communications, information and knowledge management related tasks for the newly established German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation Hub ("Energy Hub"). The Energy Hub aims to bundle all energy projects funded by Germany and implemented in Indonesia, with the objective to support portfolio development and strategy building, joint representation, and communication. The Hub hence connects to all GIZ energy projects, and further reaches out to energy projects implemented by other implementers, such as KfW, BGR and PTB, who receive funding from Germany. The Hub further works and serves the Indonesian political partners that are strategic partners for technical and financial cooperation projects. Anchored with the Direktorat Jenderal Energi Baru Terbarukan dan Konservasi Energi (DJ EBTKE) under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), the Hub further works with all energy related pollical partners of German cooperation, including Bappenas, the Ministry of Finance, PLN, to name a few. It shall further coordinate and identify the German support to the Indonesian Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Being part of the overall Energy Programme, the Communications, Event & Knowledge Management Advisor will join the communications team, work closely with the Communications Coordinator, and possibly support other projects under the Programme in the future. Therefore, we seek one (1) motivated and qualified Indonesian candidate for: 

 

Communication, Event & Knowledge Management Advisor

  

A.    Responsibilities

  • Support the Energy Hub in strategically and creatively communicating and raising the visibility of the vision, successes, and approach of Indonesian-German Energy Cooperation portfolio, as well as sustainable energy issues and project activities to various target groups (Indonesian government, public, other donors, etc.) through direct and indirect communication channels
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the portfolio visibility (PR), and communications approach for the Hub in close coordination with the Energy Programme's Communications Coordinator, all German-funded energy projects, implementers, Knowledge Management (KM) advisors, and the GIZ Country Office Indonesia, in close cooperation with the GIZ Energy Programme's Communication Coordinator
  • In close consultation with the Energy Programme's Communications Coordinator, contribute to the GIZ Energy Programme's Communications Team by aligning the Energy Hub's activities across the programme, seek synergies, exchange with other projects and Communications Advisors, and contribute to joint outputs and activities
  • Act as the Hub's interface to the communications team within the GIZ Country Office Indonesia, provide quality control and alignment of GIZ corporate branding and design guidelines with all communications materials developed within the programme
  • Perform editorial work on reports (e.g., annual/quarterly/bi-monthly/post-event/evaluation reports, scientific publication), PR & communication materials and knowledge products in both English and Bahasa Indonesia to ensure high linguistic quality
  • Develop TOR and manage service providers such as translators, editors, etc.
  • Spearhead the set-up of a programmatic website, provide content updates, and coordinate inputs of the larger GIZ Energy Programme's teams to the website
  • Generate creative ideas, lead the content creation and impactful utilization of raw footage provided by the multimedia / video professional, and its dissemination to target audiences
  • Support the Energy Hub Team Lead, Energy Programme Director, and other Energy Programme team leads in their role to communicate project activities, milestones and successes, esp. on partner engagement, and possible linkages to partner websites 

 

B.    Tasks

1.     Network Relation & Communications Development

  • Reaching out to various involved parties, be responsible for the development of a communication strategy for the Energy Hub, defining passive and active communication channels and tools, to identify the target audience, and various means of communications (electronic, print, etc.), and support the GIZ Energy Programme's communications strategy, in close coordination with the Communication Coordinator of the Programme
  • In close consultation with the Energy Programme's Communications Coordinator, lead the implementation of above-mentioned communication strategy, acting as advisor to and working closely with communications and media related staff across the GIZ Energy Programme and members of the Energy Hub (German & Indonesian government)
  • Coordinate PR & Communication activities with technical advisors, Knowledge Management advisors of other GIZ Projects and GIZ Country Office Indonesia, as well as with the German embassy, German donor ministries and Indonesian government partners, as needed
  • Support the GIZ Energy Programme's Communication Coordinator in in outreach to the GIZ Country Office Indonesia and take responsibility for quality control and alignment with GIZ corporate branding, identity, and design guidelines
  • Under the lead of the Communication Coordinator, contribute to programme-wide Visibility/PR & Communications related activities
  • Define and maintain communications with multi-donors/sectors/projects and showing aptitude in seamlessly merge them into a working ecosystem (incl. project management tools when necessary). 

2.     Media relations and outreach

  • Identify possible join partners (development agencies, NGOs) to identify synergies in communication strategy implementation.
  • Compile and actively disseminate media information materials for specific target groups
  • As part of the GIZ Energy Programme's communications team, contribute to an aligned media relations approach with the programme, and actively seek out synergies across Communications Advisors and their projects, and maintain and build a strong network with media representatives
  • Provide regular media monitoring and analysis from print and/or digital media 

3.     Editorial, Design & Co- Branding

  • Co-create the Energy Hub's distinctive design, representing the various logos of implementers, donors and political partners
  • Design, produce, publish, and disseminate communication instruments / tools to mainly national but also international audience, as well as for German donorsPerform editorial work on reports (e.g., annual/quarterly/bi-monthly/post-event/evaluation reports), PR & communication materials and knowledge products in English and Bahasa Indonesia to ensure high linguistic quality
  • Support editorial work and online presentation of the project and the Energy Programme
  • Coordinate and manage copywrite, translation work and language proofreading in English and Indonesian Language
  • As part of the Communications Team of the GIZ Energy programme, design, send and our contribute to regular project or programme newsletter/updates, coordinating and editing the inputs to be drafted by project advisors to create content
  • Oversee design / branding / corporate identity (backdrops, invites, etc.) according to GIZ and partner standards 

4.     Knowledge products & management

  • Prepare fact sheets, presentations, flyers, posters and other knowledge products for the Energy Hub
  • Coordinate closely with projects under the GIZ Energy Programme, projects implemented by KfW, PTB and BGR, as well as German and Indonesian government, to develop ideas for knowledge products, and realize their implementation
  • Distribute such products to the appropriate channels,
  • Develop creative content and knowledge products about project issue, aiming at increasing the knowledge and awareness of stakeholder in Indonesia 
  • Write articles: Buzz, GIZ internal energy newsletter, programme website, etc.
  • Planning and developing videos (script writing) and their distribution (together with Video officer)
  • Conceptualize, compile, prepare and communicate success stories / achievements of German-Indonesian Energy Cooperation today and for the past 30 years, e.g., of activities and pilot projects from all energy projects funded by Germany
  • Cooperate with GIZ global communication/global project in producing necessary communication material.
  • Provide report editing and design of the Energy Hub annual activity reports drafted by the technical advisors 

5.     Event and liaison support

Support the implementation of Energy Hub events (e.g., Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week, RE Day, meetings, Steering Committee sessions, etc), which include:

  • Liaise with event organizers for venue selection, and coordinate event organizers
  • Develop promotional strategy, and products such as flyers, booth, websites, etc
  • Liaise with journalists prior to the event, write and distribute press releases
  • Organize Press conferences when necessary
  • Prepare Media kit
  • Analyze post-event/evaluation reports
  • Support communication and coordination with relevant partner
  • Prepare press releases, as well as content development for sharing through various channels 

6.     Other duties / additional tasks

  • Subject to discussions with the Energy Hub Team Lead, and/or the Energy Programme, the Advisor may be allocated additional tasks and other duties for shorter periods
  • Contribute to regular meetings of the Communications Team of the GIZ Energy Programme, led by the Energy Programme's Communications Coordinator, and support synergies and aligned planning of events, media approaches and knowledge products
  • The Advisor shall be prepared to travel and to work in the field

 C.    Required qualifications, competences and experience

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in relevant field of work, e.g., Corporate PR/Communications, Journalism, Marketing Communication, International Relations
  • Very good working knowledge of IT, communication technologies (social media, related software, website) and newest communication methods
  • Proven track record of previous PR work matching the tasks above
  • Established network of journalists or multipliers in Indonesia
  • Very good communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia, including speaking and writing 

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years professional experience in the field of communications (editorial work, media and PR work, journalism, using social media)
  • Experience in developing networks with multiple stakeholder groups (e.g. donors, projects, etc.) is a strong asset
  • Proven success and creativity in applying direct and indirect communication strategies, channels and messages to broad audiences (public, youth, media, etc.), breaking down technical content to easily digestible messages (social media, print media, etc.)
  • Prior working experience in energy, environment, climate change-related sector is advantageous
  • Regional experience or prior work in a global organization/event is preferred
  • Insight into the International Development Cooperation work
  • Visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and desktop publishing (DTP) is a plus
  • Experience in events preparation, coordination, and organization

  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high quality work products
  • Willingness to up skill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
  • Availability to travel within Indonesia for short-term project visits on short notice
