Location: Brazil, Singapore, Colombia, Indonesia

Work percentage: 100%

Duration of the contract: One year confirmed, with option to extend (longer-term depending on funding)

Role Summary:

 

WWF seeks an experienced and passionate individual to serve as the Global Coordinator for the Network's Deforestation- and Conversion-Free work. Working as part of a Cross-Practice and global team, the Global DCF Coordinator will facilitate and accelerate the network's ability to deliver on DCF outcomes through stronger alignment, coordination, and implementation.

 

Major Functions:

 

Facilitate network-wide delivery of the WWF Global DCF action plan (GAP)

 

  • Implementation: Support the implementation and regular review of the GAP, ensuring quality, effectiveness, and timeliness of delivery
  • Work closely with the Global DCF team, consisting of the Food, Forests, Finance, and Markets Practices to facilitate Network-wide delivery of the GAP
  • Regularly monitor and track progress across task teams (at least every 6 months); and lead an annual review of the GAP
  • Liaise with the Cross-Practice Steering Group on any major developments/adaptations of the GAP
  • Regional Plans: As relevant, coordinate and support regions and offices in the development of Regional WWF DCF action plans
  • Support regional teams to develop action plans, as needed, including facilitating meetings, sharing relevant materials/templates, and ensuring linkages to collective priorities and internal resources and strengths
  • Support implementation and synergies across countries, regions, and global, promoting collaboration among national offices and Global Practices
  • Resourcing and Communications: Support resource and communication needs for GAP
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal communication strategy for the DCF GAP
  • In collaboration w/ Global DCF Team, socialize plan and create buy-in from key stakeholders
  • Identify resource needs and support fundraising activities
  • Research Agenda: Support the DCF research agenda by coordinating ideas for analysis and content generation
  • Input, lead, and coordinate development of new analysis, linked to the DCF GAP; This could include, e.g., Grasslands; Climate and DC; tools for traceability; case studies; narratives to link DCF to other global agendas

 

DCF Area of Collective Action and Innovation (ACAI) Lead

 

  • Internal alignment: Drive internal alignment through knowledge/experience exchange across the global DCF ACAI community:
  • Serve as a central node facilitating connections among staff across network offices and Practices engaging on related work streams
  • Organize (develop agenda) and facilitate regular DCF ACAI community calls
  • Maintain a calendar of key DCF external/internal events
  • In collaboration with Practice Knowledge Managers, define knowledge gaps and co-develop capacity-building material
  • Develop and enable use of improved systems for knowledge management and Maintain DCF Global Hub
  • Engagement with/membership of relevant Practice Extended Core Teams

 

DCF Finance Coordination

 

  • Enable engagement of financial institutions: Provide WWF office teams with content and guidance to engage financial institutions on deforestation and conversion risks, leveraging latest recommendations and resources, including the WWF DCF Guiding Principles, and Asks
  • Knowledge development: Support WWF teams to identify priority outputs, e.g. playbooks, case studies (including investable and scalable projects)
  • Internal alignment: Drive alignment across the organization and with key external stakeholders:
  • Gain a practical understanding of tools for the finance sector to address their deforestation and conversion risks (e.g. Biodiversity Risk Filter, SIGHT, etc.)
  • Support WWF offices and the Finance Practice in collaborating with other organizations and initiatives (including TNFD, GFANZ, CDP, UN PRI, UNEPFI, etc.) to identify key knowledge gaps/obstacles and propose solutions
  • Actively engage with the WWF Network, organize and moderate regular calls with the DCF Finance community as well as other Practices

 

Required Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Basic understanding of global supply chains for soft commodities, and global sustainability agendas (e.g. Deforestation and Conversion-Free, SBTi/FLAG and SBTN, Nature-positive, Food system change)
  • General knowledge on corporate practices, corporate target setting, and corporate sustainability
  • Advanced degree in Natural Sciences, Business, Finance, Economics, Environmental Management and Policy, International Relations, or other related fields
  • Proven experience in one or more areas: business/strategy, project management, conservation, deforestation and conversion-related agricultural commodity supply chains, environmental or climate finance, and investment, corporate sustainability, impact investing, ESG standards
  • Demonstrated experience in convening and coordinating communities in an international environment (particularly an NGO)
  • Experience working in and/or professional understanding of the key dynamics of the agricultural/agribusiness sectors is not required but is highly desirable

  • Proven leadership skills, and demonstrated ability to work independently, and also work constructively within a team
  • Exceptional organizational skills, ability to execute high-quality work in a timely manner formal project management credentials are not required but highly desirable
  • Adept at facilitating knowledge-sharing, learning, and capacity building
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders to balance priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills and communication skills - Excellent English written and oral skills and ability to inspire others and translate complex and technical information into compelling narratives - additional written or oral skills are a plus
  • Passionately committed to the mission and objectives of WWF and to its success
  • Willingness to travel, if necessary

Working Relationships

 

The Global DCF Coordinator will be guided by a Steering Group that consists of representatives from Global Practices (Finance, Food, Forest, and Markets), country offices, and other relevant groups. The candidate will serve as a key liaison with the DCF Global Policy and Advocacy Manager, relevant Network offices, commodity leads, initiative leads, Conservation Directors, Practice Leaders and Deputies, and topical experts from around the Network.
