The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations on behalf of the German Government.
The collaboration with ASEAN is a foundational part of Germany's international cooperation. Since 2009, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working with ASEAN at its headquarters the ASEAN Secretariat, its specialized Centers and relevant Sectoral Bodies and member states. As one of the longest-standing bilateral donors to ASEAN and largest contributor in the EU, Germany became official Development Partner of ASEAN in 2016.
As GIZ ASEAN, we implement regional capacity-building and policy advisory projects while being present in eight ASEAN member states. 2023 five different GIZ country offices have assumed respective responsibilities for ASEAN member states. The Head of GIZ ASEAN Cluster is based in ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
We are seeking 1 (one) qualified Indonesian candidate for the following position:
Trainee for Public Relations
The traineeship is to support the implementation of GIZ ASEAN Strategy 2022 – 2025, with a focus on visibility and communication activities. The traineeship program will provide benefits to deepen knowledge on international cooperation in the topics of sustainable waste management, energy transition, circular economy among others. It can also broaden his/her understanding on transitioning processes in Indonesia and the ASEAN region.
Under direct supervision of Communication Specialist/ Portfolio Management, the trainee shall support in the preparation and implementation of Cluster activities in coordination with the communication specialists of the different GIZ ASEAN projects.
The Trainee will perform the following tasks:
- Support ASEAN Cluster in outreach activities and implementation of ASEAN Cluster Strategy with focus on visibility.
- Support preparation of workshops, team meetings of GIZ Indonesia and ASEAN Cluster, e.g., ASEAN Day celebrations August 2023
- Support in creation of materials and written releases for communication for ASEAN Cluster, e.g., project sheets, thematical sheets.
- Support the creation of digital formats and tools for knowledge management.
- Support research of media landscape in Indonesia and ASEAN region for thematical publications, as well as publications by partner organizations.
- Support the collection, compilation, and management of communication materials and technical documentation (technical reports, meeting notes, pictures, etc.), both internally and externally.
- Compile social media content for communications-related activities.
The traineeship program will provide benefits to deepen the trainee's knowledge on ASEAN GIZ cooperation and a variety of topics on sustainability, such as solid waste management, energy transition, as well as practical experience on the working environment in international cooperation.
Formal Education
- Strong knowledge and familiarity on sustainability, international cooperation, international relations, ASEAN regional context
- Basic knowledge of GIZ's work and context of international development cooperation.
- Knowledge on Indonesia's and international media landscape and/or public narrative will be an advantage.
- Experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, social media management are assets.
- Strong interest to work on issues related to sustainable development, (e.g., Solid Waste Management, Energy Transition, Urban Mobility)
- Good communication, organisational and project management skills
- Good command of Ms. Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with picture editing software/application is an advantage.
- Proficiency in English and excellent writing skills is a MUST.
- Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.

Working Hours: 5 working days per week, 8 working hours per day
Expected Joining Date: 1 August 2023 – 31 January 2024
