Recent projects include environmental justice assistance for communities across the U.S,  creating an internet resilience solution for disasters in remote locations, so people can reach outside help and find their loved ones, a program to empower women entrepreneurs in remote areas so they can support their families, and in Puerto Rico, working to improve water quality and health from leaking septic tanks.


Atma Connect seeks an experienced, self-directed, and collaborative Resilience Technical Project Manager. Atma Connect is an award-winning global nonprofit technology organization that creates platforms to connect people so they can report problems, share solutions, and improve their communities from the ground up. Our long-term vision is to connect and empower billions of vulnerable people in every region of the world so they can improve their communities from the ground up. 


We are increasingly focused on the use of the Internet and other communications in the immediate response to natural disasters and through the recovery phase. We have recently started a project with funding and support from the Internet Society Foundation to identify the needs and priorities for the internet and other communications during disaster response. There is a focus on promoting the steps that the communities and organizations should take to prepare and for the provision of resources they will need. The project involves working with various community groups, the Red Cross, local governments, to increase awareness, provide training and encourage change. It involves the implementation of new satellite connections in remote locations and working with government and other groups to direct more planning and funding into this area.    


We are seeking a technical project leader who will ensure successful project execution. A key part of the role will include building relationships with government and other groups to extend the reach and impact of the project. 


Atma Connect is seeking an entrepreneurial, self-directed, experienced, and collaborative Technical Project Manager to help execute this initiative, maximize impact. This is an entrepreneurial, multifunctional, collaborative role: you'll work on solving hard problems; increasing the impact, reach and success of social change efforts led by community organizations. 


Required Tasks and Deliverables


  1. Develop a process for engaging with communities to understand their internet connectivity needs. 

  2. Develop a set of packaged technology solutions that can be applied to solve different sets of needs and are backed with a model to sustainably fund them. 

  3. Negotiate with and contract suppliers to deliver the different technical solutions. Develop detailed specifications, agree support agreements etc. Oversee the delivery and QA the results.

  4. Lead the development and delivery of training courses, processes, procedures to be delivered to communities prior to and following the technical implementation to: 

    1. Secure community support

    2. Educate the community to accelerate adoption and get maximum benefit from the internet

    3. Reduce the risks of the internet to new users. 

    4. Utilize the internet to improve the financial strength of the community

    5. Utilize the internet to learn and develop greater resilience to disaster

    6. Prepare for disaster by receiving warnings and understanding how to use the internet to get help

    7. Develop skills and processes to ensure their internet connection is reliable in day-to-day use and following a natural disaster.  

  5. Manage the delivery of training etc. Evaluate and assess the process and make constant improvements. 

  6. Partner with other organizations to adopt our training and processes in their implementation of new internet connections

  7. Develop relationships with government and other organizations to provide ongoing funding. Streamline processes to acquire funds e.g. grant applications.  

  8. Work with existing experienced team and recruit extra staff as required. 

  9. Determine how to scale. 



Qualification

  • Educational background, Bachelor or Master degree in Business Administration.

  • Have experience in managing implementation of internet solutions.

  • Have experience in managing complex projects.

  • Have multiple years of experience in leading project teams where fast learning and innovation is required.

  • Have experience in communicating complex concepts and encouraging change in individuals and groups.

  • Have a technical and internet background, including ideally experience with networking and satellites. 

  • Are a strategic thinker, resourceful, entrepreneurial, a connector of dots and people, a natural problem-solver, and an analytical, data-driven decision-maker.

  • Bring an operations mindset: you enjoy (1) taking a systems thinking approach to define and improve processes (2) rolling up your sleeves in service of a cause, even if the work is not always glamorous.

  • Initiative, attention to detail and 100% follow-through: You need the ability to manage time well, establish realistic deadlines and meet them consistently. Your work should be thorough, accurate and precise. Based on direction from senior staff, you should be able to independently research solutions and recommend procedures and systems to solve administrative challenges.  

  • Fluency, curiosity and an intrepid approach to technology: Because we have a remote offices and so much of our work relies on online tools and applications, the ideal candidate will feel comfortable with trouble-shooting and administering a cloud-based office system (primarily Google Drive and Dropbox)  using and designing online systems; they will approach tech troubleshooting without fear or frustration and with a curious can-do spirit.

  • Willingness to pitch in outside of the job description when help is needed. 

  • Based in Indonesia.

  • Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English.


Bonus Points For

  • Previous implementation of internet and energy disaster resilience technology in hard to reach locations.

  • Familiarity with nonprofits and, specifically, with technology and international organizations is a bonus. An interest in community resilience and empowerment is helpful, but not required—as long as you are intellectually curious enough to learn about our niche over time.


Commitment: We're hiring for a 6-month contract. We're open to negotiating between 25-40 hours per week and will tailor expectations based on the committed hours. 


Compensation: Contract compensation depends on experience and will be competitive and commensurate with other positions in the field. We are committed to the personal and professional growth of all staff. Benefits include flexible work hours and remote work.
