Full-time Researcher of Politics

for The Habibie Center – Habibie Democracy Forum

Public Discussion Series

 

Background

The Habibie Center (THC) was founded in 1999 by the third Indonesian President, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie and family as a non-profit and independent think tank organization, with the mission to establish a structurally and culturally democratic society that recognizes, respects, and promotes human rights, and to increase the effectiveness of human resources management and the socialization of technology.

The Habibie Center is seeking an experienced, motivated and dynamic individual to support the program of Public Discussion Series under Habibie Democracy Forum (HDF). S/he will be based in Jakarta and work as part of our core research team.

Tasks and Responsibilities

·         Mainly conduct or organize monthly public discussion series and a national seminar on Indonesia's democracy, politics and media

·         Write post event publications or short reports on the issues and publish them via The Habibie Center's social media and website.

·         Identify speakers and target audience, prepare Terms of Reference, and take responsibility for the proceedings including administrative issues.

·         Liaise with different stakeholders such as government agencies, universities, NGOs, media, and other external partners.

·         Provide input and assistance in determining relevant and current issues related to democracy and politics in Indonesia.

·         Represent The Habibie Center in relevant forums, seminars, workshops, and other events in Jakarta, online and offline, and prepare a brief written report.

·         Complete all deliverables as part of ongoing projects as well as contribute to securing future projects.

·         Assisting The Habibie Center with other Habibie Democracy Forum related program activities/events when the need arises.

Requirements

 

·         At least a master's degree, with relevant experience in political science, or other related disciplines with some previous experiences;

·         Strong knowledge of current trend, state and dynamic of Indonesia's politics and democracy is an advantage.

·         Experience in writing policy briefs, academic articles, and op-eds (in English and Bahasa Indonesia).

·         Experience in building relationships and connecting with various stakeholders, including local and international research organizations, governments, and NGOs.

·         Experience in organizing national events such as public dialogues and seminars (offline, online, and hybrid), with the ability to handle administrative issues.

·         Experience in project planning and management, from developing concept notes/proposals to implementation, and reporting phases.

·         Strong research skills in both qualitative and quantitative methods is an advantage.

·         Solid organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize projects with attention to detail.

·         A great team player, have integrity, professional discretion, and ability to interact effectively with diverse partners.

·         Fluency in spoken and written English.

 

 

Duty Station: Jakarta

Contract Duration: This is a full-time position (5 days / 40 hours per week), with initial 6 months contract and potentially extended based on performance.  Expected to start in early June 2024.
