Scope of Work: Communications Intern

 

Background

 

Catholic Relief Services is the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS works to save, protect, and transform lives in need in more than 100 countries, without regard to race, religion or nationality. CRS' relief and development work are accomplished through programs of emergency response, HIV, health, agriculture, education, microfinance and peacebuilding.

The Indonesia Country Program (CP) has a robust Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Response program portfolio implemented by a diverse team of committed staff and high-capacity local partners. CRS Indonesia is committed to expanding the impact of its programs by developing an influential voice with government stakeholders, staking out a position as the leader in Homes & Communities post-disaster recovery, advancing local leadership with strategic government, Church, and civil society partners, and combatting the effects of climate change.

 

CRS Indonesia is currently seeking a capable Communications Intern for a six-month period to help ensure continued visibility of CRS' programming in-country. The internship is paid with a stipend to cover transportation and meals and may include flexible work arrangements.

 

Scope of Work

 

Duty Station: Jakarta

Working Hours: 5 working days per week, 8 working hours per day

Expected Joining Date: February 2024

Duration of Internship: 6 months

Reporting to: Head of Programming, CRS Indonesia

 

The intern will support the program team in various tasks related to CRS' internal and external communications.

The intern will be responsible for the following tasks:

 

Design and Layout:

• Create visually appealing designs for various communication materials, including infographics, presentations, briefs, brochures, and graphics.

• Layout and format documents to ensure consistency and brand adherence.

• Utilize design software to create high-quality design assets.

 

Content Creation:

• Assist in developing and writing various content formats, including press releases, media content, and stories.

• Conduct research and gather information to support content creation.

 

Media Relations:

• Monitor media coverage and prepare media reports.

• Assist in organizing press conferences and media events, as needed.

 

Event Planning and Execution:

• Assist in planning and executing internal and external events.

• Manage event logistics, including invitations, RSVPs, and venue arrangements.

• Support event execution, including on-site coordination and post-event follow-up.

 

Internal Communications:

• Support employee engagement initiatives and internal campaigns.

 

Eligibility Criteria

This internship is open to students currently enrolled and fresh graduates. Interested candidates must meet the following criteria:

 

Education:

• Currently enrolled in or graduated from a bachelor's or master's degree program in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, English, or a related field. 

• Strong academic performance.

Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.   

• Strong organizational and time management skills.   

• Proficiency in Canva. Knowledge of other design software (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus.   

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).   

• Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

 

Other Qualifications:

• Interest in communications, marketing, or public relations, especially within the context of NGOs and humanitarian and development work.

• Passion for storytelling and brand building.

• Strong attention to detail.

• Self-motivated with time and stress management skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.

• Ability to meet deadlines.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.

• Flexibility and adaptability.

Remuneration: The intern will receive a cost-of-living stipend intended to cover expenses relating to meals and transportation in accordance with CRS policies and national regulations.
