Full-time Researcher for The Habibie Center - ASEAN Studies Program
Background
The Habibie Center (THC) was founded in 1999 by the third Indonesian President, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie and family as a non-profit and independent think tank organization, with the mission to establish a structurally and culturally democratic society that recognizes, respects, and promotes human rights, and to increase the effectiveness of human resources management and the socialization of technology.
The Habibie Center is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to support the expansion and development of its ASEAN Studies program. S/he will be based in Jakarta and work as part of our core research team.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct research and manage information about ASEAN and Indo-Pacific-related issues
- Write publications on ASEAN and Indo-Pacific-related issues
- Draft policy briefs (in English), together with the core team, on ASEAN and Indo-Pacific-related issues
- Identify speakers and target audience, prepare Terms of Reference, and take responsibility for the proceedings including administrative issues
- Liaise with different stakeholders such as embassies, government agencies, universities, consultants, media, and other external partners
- Organize public dialogues and other international events on ASEAN and Indo-Pacific-related issues
- Provide input and assistance in determining relevant and current issues related to ASEAN and Indo-Pacific
- Represent The Habibie Center in ASEAN-related forums, seminars, workshops, and other events in Jakarta and the region, online and offline, and prepare a brief written report
- Complete all deliverables as part of ongoing projects as well as contribute to securing future projects
- Assisting The Habibie Center with other program activities/events when the need arises
Requirements
- At least a master's degree, with relevant experience in international relations, international political economics and development, regional studies, or other related disciplines with some previous experience in research or policy analysis related to political economics in the ASEAN and Indo-Pacific context
- Strong knowledge of ASEAN and Indo-Pacific is an advantage, including regional integration issues, general news on ASEAN and Indo-Pacific, discourses, ASEAN forums, and ASEAN countries' development
- Experience in a similar role, specifically in writing policy briefs, academic articles, and op-eds (in English and Bahasa Indonesia)
- Experience in building relationships and connecting with various stakeholders, including local and international organizations, universities, government institutions, and NGOs
- Experience in organizing national and international events such as public dialogues and seminars (offline, online, and hybrid), with the ability to handle administrative issues
- Experience in project planning and management, from developing concept notes/proposals to implementation, and reporting phases
- Strong research skills in both qualitative and quantitative methods is an advantage
- Solid organizational skills, with a proven ability to prioritize projects with attention to detail
- A great team player, have integrity, professional discretion, and the ability to interact effectively with diverse partners
- Fluency in spoken and written English
Duty Station: Jakarta
Contract Duration: This is a full-time position (5 days / 40 hours per week), with a 10 months contract and potentially extended based on performance. Expected to start in early March 2025.
