As part of the Indonesia–Germany cooperation in reducing emissions from the forestry sector and improving the livelihoods of rural communities, a project titled Peatland Management and Rehabilitation has been implemented. The project aims to strengthen planning and implementation capacities for rehabilitating peatland ecosystems and mangrove forests in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan.
The project integrates policy advisory services and capacity development measures, with activities carried out at the macro, meso, and micro levels, including pilot initiatives. At the national level, policy advice is delivered in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment.
The project is expected to deliver the following key outputs:
- Integrated protection and sustainable management of peat and mangrove ecosystems in the North Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.
- Improved land use systems and practices for peat and wetland ecosystems.
- Applied research findings and field-based experiences that are documented and disseminated at local, national, and international levels through the Ministry of Environment.
GIZ is recruiting an Indonesian qualified candidate for the position of:
Advisor Community Based Petland Management and Rehabilitation
(Job title in SAP: Climate Change Advisor)
A. Responsibilities
In your role you are responsible for the technical, substantive and organizational implementation of the project's measures and activities. In consultation with your line manager, you also assume tasks related to planning, steering and monitoring the project, including project administration tasks in some cases. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3 and ensure the quality of the commission's outcomes.
In addition, you contribute to the conceptual design of the project, in particular its modification of realignment.
You make technical and substantive contributions to overarching issues in cooperation with commissioning parties/clients, partners and other actor and thereby support the achievement of the agreed objectives of the respective project and provide impetus for further strategy development.
In coordination with the country director, the cluster coordinator, the commission manager, and your line manager, you also use your contacts for the acquisition of contracts on behalf of the company.
In consultation with your team colleagues and the project's management team, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team.
You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarizing themselves with and performing their tasks.
You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required.
B. Main activities
- Support the design and implementation of field activities and technical assistance for community-based peatland management in East and North Kalimantan, in accordance with GIZ standards and in close collaboration with villagers, social forestry institutions, farmer groups, and village institutions.
- Contribute to achieving the project's goals and field activities as agreed with implementing partners.
- Ensure the timely and high-quality execution of project field activities.
- Support the Principal Advisor and coordinate with the Advisor for Peatland Management and Rehabilitation to ensure GIZ's effective contribution to community-based peatland management by providing professional advice to villagers and partners, and by maintaining effective communication.
- Under the coordination of the Advisor for Peatland Management and Rehabilitation, assist in communication and coordination with provincial and district-level agencies, as well as other key stakeholders related to community-based peatland management and rehabilitation.
- Expected to allocate working time approximately as follows:
60% for field/village-level implementation of program activities10% for coordination, communication, and networking10% for project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting15% for program planning and strategy development5% for staff management and team building
C. Qualifications and specialist knowledge
- Qualification
- Bachelor's in agriculture/forestry/Natural Resource Management or other relevant study.
- Professional Experience
- 3 years of experiences especially in the Paludiculture/community organizer will have an advantage.
- Good conceptual, inter-personal, communication, negotiation, co-ordination, facilitation and representation skills.
- Knowledge and skills to use participatory tools and methods
- Strong interest to work on issues related to agriculture technology, Paludiculture, peat management, livelihood enhancement, food security, and good village government.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Other knowledge and additional competencies and Personal Specifications
- Self-motivated with time and stress management skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to take responsibility, meet deadlines and make progress with minimum supervision
- Willing to travel extensively to the project implemented sites to conduct trainings, monitoring and evaluation, and other field research and able to adjust and work in tough field situations.
- Capacity and willingness to learn new skills, research methods, and work routines under the mentorship of Advisor.
- Good oral and written communications in English and Indonesia.
