Dear Potential Bidders,
Nutrition International is a global nutrition organization headquartered in Ottawa, Canada. For more than 30 years, we have focused on delivering low-cost, high-impact nutrition interventions to people in need. Working alongside governments as an expert ally, we combine deep technical expertise with a flexible approach, increasing impact without increasing complexity or cost. In more than 60 countries, primarily in Asia and Africa, Nutrition International nourishes people to nourish life. Maternal and Newborn Health and Nutrition (MNHN) remains a public health concern in Indonesia where malnutrition among pregnant women continues to impact pregnancy and birth outcomes that affects future population health and productivities. Indonesia has high rates of anaemia among pregnant women (27.7%), and adverse birth outcomes such as low birthweight (11,7%), preterm births (15.5%), and small for gestational age (22.8%). Additionally, pre-eclampsia affects 24% of pregnancies, contributing to 19% of maternal deaths, and obstetric haemorrhage contributes to 25% of maternal deaths. The maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Indonesia is estimated at 173 deaths per 100,000 live births, well above the MMR target of 70/100,000 as per Sustainable Development Goal 3.
The Government of Indonesia has demonstrated strong commitment to improving maternal and child health and nutrition through national policies, supplementation programmes, food fortification initiatives, and antenatal care (ANC) services. However, important implementation gaps persist across provinces and districts. These include variability in programme quality and coverage and challenges in translating policy into effective subnational action. Indonesia has begun moving towards scaling up maternal multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) as part of its antenatal nutrition strategy, acknowledging the limitations of routine iron-folic acid (IFA) alone in addressing the broad spectrum of micronutrient deficiencies in pregnancy. In recent years, the Ministry of Health (MoH), with support from partners including Nutrition International (NI), Vitamin Angels, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization (WHO), has undertaken critical preparatory work for MMS policy advancement and future implementation. NI has been supporting Indonesia’s health and nutrition agenda since 2006, focusing on high-impact, high-coverage interventions for vulnerable populations, including pregnant and lactating women, adolescent girls, and young children. NI’s programming emphasizes improving access to and utilization of essential micronutrients, strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks, and supporting delivery platforms that enhance program effectiveness and equity. From 2025 to 2028, NI is supporting the MOH in improving maternal nutrition through strengthening maternal nutrition policies, programme quality, and service delivery systems at national level and in West Java.
NI is seeking an agency in implementing a series of activities to support MNHN interventions at national and subnational level (West Java), including management of activities for implementation and administrative and financial management of human resources.
