[newdevjobsindo] (Repost) Vacancy Announcement "Rote Island Project Officer"

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has a distinguished history of experts exploring and saving wildlife in some of the most remote and wild places remaining on Earth. WCS Indonesia Program (WCS-IP) has significantly grown over the last decades, and contributed substantially in supporting the Government of Indonesia (GoI), particularly Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) in conserving Indonesia's biodiversity. WCS-IP currently has programs focusing on landscape/seascape conservation, species conservation actions and engaging local communities.

WCS works in Gunung Leuser National Park, Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, Way Kambas National Park of Sumatra, Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park in Sulawesi, and in Rote Island, as part of a freshwater turtle initiative. In this Nusa Tenggara Timur province, WCS-IP is currently working closely with conservation authorities, Balai Besar KSDA NTT and the local government to establish a viable wild population of the Critically Endangered Rote Island snake-necked turtle, Chelodina mccordi, through its reintroduction and effective management on Rote Island.

WCS is implementing Year 4 of a field site project that aims to establish a viable wild population of the Critically Endangered Rote Island snake-necked turtle, Chelodina mccordi, through its reintroduction and effective management on Rote Island. This is in response to the presumed extinction of the species from the wild due to the demand from the international pet trade that led to its over-harvesting. The priorities for Year 4 are to prepare repatriation process of turtles, prepare the lake habitat for reintroduction, develop the head-starting facility and further increase community stakeholder engagement and support for the project goals.
