This position is a senior scientific and management position within the INA-RESPOND Network. The person in this position will work closely with the Chair of the Network, the Laboratory Director, and the Network Steering Committee. This position will ensure that the research conducted within INA-RESPOND will be in full compliance with all medical research regulations through a well-documented and updated research protocol, is of high scientific standard, contributes to the advancement of the existing body of scientific knowledge on the subject, and contributes to the advancement of Indonesian medical knowledge and practice. The primary responsibility is to lead and coordinate Network activities supporting international collaborative clinical research on infectious diseases of national and international significance, including emerging infectious diseases and priorities identified by the MOH.
The high-level task outline of the position is as follows:
Scientific Leadership
- Works closely with the Network Steering Committee to determine and manage the scientific direction of the Network.
- Ensures appropriate implementation of the Network's scientific agenda.
- Leads the Scientific Section within the INA-RESPOND Secretariat to ensure adherence to approved timelines for site readiness and implementation of studies conducted through the Network.
- Serves as a senior mentor to Secretariat staff, particularly clinical research and data management/biostatistics staff
- Maintains awareness of current scientific developments, trends, and publications in fields relevant to the Network.
- Leads the development of clinical research protocols, study procedure manuals, and other study documents.
- Coordinates timely protocol development and implementation.
- Supports and facilitates the scientific/protocol activities of the Network and ensures adherence to the International Conference on Harmonization's Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP).
- Coordinates the analysis of study findings.
- Participates in meetings providing study status updates to Network leadership, study teams, and the Network Steering Committee.
- Leads and contributes to manuscript development for publication of study results.
- Leads and contributes to the development of posters, presentations, policy briefs, and other media to broadly share results from Network studies.
- Oversees and supports the organization and preparation of domestic and international scientific meetings and workshops.
- Supervises clinical research staff (Clinical Operations Specialists, Data Managers, and Biostatisticians).
- Serves as a day-to-day contact for all Secretariat staff on scientific matters.
- Ensures effective communication and productive relationships with hospital clinical research sites, MOH representatives, Network partners/collaborators, and other stakeholders.
- Supervises Clinical Research staff (Clinical Operations Specialists, Data Managers, and Biostatisticians).
- Other duties as assigned by the Network Chair.
Required Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- MD, PhD, MD/PhD, or other doctorate level degree in science/medicine with 10 years of experience in clinical, biomedical, and/or laboratory research.
- Extensive experience in clinical, biomedical, and/or laboratory research as demonstrated by a record of peer-reviewed publications in international scientific journals; recent experience managing an independent research program a plus.
- Extensive experience and proven effective skills to operate within the Indonesian scientific medical research community.
- Experience and proven skills to operate and develop international collaborations in medical research.
- Advanced level of management skills to supervise staff of more than 10 scientists and specialists: recent experience with supervising staff a plus.
- Fully bilingual (speaking, reading, and writing) in Bahasa Indonesian and English.
- Willingness and ability to perform extensive domestic and international travel when needed.
