Project Overview and Role:
About PERINTIS – PERINTIS is a project implemented under the DFAT-funded Indonesia Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT).
The purpose of PERINTIS is to support Palembang's sanitation program through a social marketing campaign and training. The focus is on helping community members make informed decisions about sanitation and assisting local government and contractors to deliver effective sanitation services.
Based in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia, the Knowledge and Learning Consultant will be responsible for supporting the PERINTIS MEL team to conduct research to develop products that emphasise replicability and sustainability of the PERINTIS approach. Reporting directly to the Leadership Team and receiving support from the MEL Adviser and MEL Coordinator in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia.
Duties:
- Work closely with PERINTIS' client, KIAT (DT Global) team; the MEL Adviser; the MEL Coordinator and Monitoring and Support Officers (MSOs) to conduct qualitative information gathering sessions including FGDs and community consultations.
- Lead on qualitative data collection. If required, design surveys, questionnaires and other tools to gather accurate feedback from PERINTIS target beneficiaries and partner stakeholders around PERINTIS key outcomes.
- Support the overall development of reports through accurate interpretation of data collected as needed.
- Work with the Training, Marketing and Communications, and GEDSI teams to feed through lessons learned and community feedback relevant to the overall PERINTIS socialisation campaign.
- Apply sensitive, open and safe communication methods when engaging with community members.
- Apply gender-sensitive and accessible approaches to design and delivery of community consultation and information gathering activities.
- Escalate any engagements with community members, partners or stakeholders that may pose risk to PERINTIS or the PCSP Project as early as possible.
Skills and Experience:
- A post-graduate degree or higher in a relevant field of either development studies, monitoring and evaluation, sociology, behavior communications, community development, water and sanitation, etc.
- Proven experience working at the community/provincial level in Indonesia, and ability to engage in local language.
- Demonstrated experience leading focus group discussions (FGDs), working sensitively with community members from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience designing qualitative information gathering materials such as questionnaires, surveys, and other means of collecting meaningful and accurate qualitative data.
- Ability to synthesise and contextualise qualitative and quantitative data and produce concise reports.
- Demonstrated experience working with Local Government, CSOs/NGOs and other community organisations.
- Experience working with international donor organisations such as DFAT.
- Experience in applying gender-sensitive and accessible principles to information gathering and community consultation.
