i4Ag Aquaculture commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is part of the Fund for the Promotion of Innovation in Agriculture (i4Ag) and being carried out by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with BRGM. The project strongly promotes innovations and technologies for sustainable aquaculture especially the water cycle system. This individual measure – taking place in Vietnam and Indonesia – will test innovative technologies that increase water quality in shrimp production and reduce water consumption, making farming profitable while at the same time conserving resources and protecting the environment.
Delta Kayan Sembakung (DKS) is strategic area for the development of North Kalimantan Province. The area supports the economy of the region and the local community and recognized as important natural mangrove ecosystem.
Addressing the quantitative measure of the mangrove ecosystem in supporting the fishery sector – fishing and aquaculture – would draw attention to the effort of reforestation. Economic valuation could provide information in decision making for the sustainability of mangrove. It is important to value the mangrove since other users depend on it for their livelihood. The objective of this study is to assess the value of mangrove ecosystem services in supporting the fishery sector including aquaculture. In addition, the study will estimate the carbon stock of mangroves in North Kalimantan. The detail services is set forth in the attached of Term of Reference and other annexes.
