Service Contract: Training and Coaching Regenerative Agriculture in Traceable and Sustainable Plam Oil Supply Chain Project in Jambi (Team or CSO).

Background

SNV, a global development partner, is committed to transforming agrifood, energy, and water systems for sustainable and equitable lives. Operating in over 20 countries in Africa and Asia, SNV focuses on three main approaches in the agrifood sector: resilient landscapes, inclusive food markets, and healthy diets. Cross-cutting aspects include gender and social inclusion, good governance, and climate mitigation and adaptation.

In Indonesia, SNV has been active since 2013, collaborating with the Ministry of Home Affairs. Key projects have been implemented in provinces such as North Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, and West Java, covering commodity supply chains like oil palm, rubber, coffee, dairy, coconut, and cassava.

The Traceable and Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chain Project:

The Traceable and Sustainable Palm Oil Supply Chain Project in Jambi funded by L'ORÉAL aims to implement on-field actions while ensuring compliance with No Deforestation No Peat No Exploitation (NDPE) standards, aligning with L'ORÉAL 2030 Forest Policy. The project focuses on traceability, yearly impact reporting, and establishing a sustainable palm oil supply chain.

 

Strategic Partnership Objectives:

Support the growth of sustainable oil palm production in Jambi. Promote the inclusion of independent smallholders in the global palm oil market. Support the growth of regenerative agriculture in oil palm for soil restoration.

 

Scope of Work:

In the first year, the Team or Civil Society Organization (CSO) will collaborate with SNV's project team in 5 villages in Jambi, focusing on:

1. Sensitization and data collection/plot mapping for 2,000 smallholders.
2. Conducting BMP RegAg training for 2,000 smallholders.
3. Coaching smallholders in the implementation of regenerative agriculture for 2,000 smallholders.
4. Establishing demonstration plots in 4 villages.

Deliverables

1. Database and mapping of 2,000 smallholders.
2. BMP REG AG training for 2,000 farmers from 5 villages.
3. Coaching for 2,000 farmers from 5 villages, including adoption.
4. Establishment of 4 oil palm demonstration plots.

 

Evaluation Criteria

1. Experience in implementing sustainable development projects, especially in the Oil Palm sector.
2. Expertise in working with smallholders and implementing regenerative agriculture practices.
3. Previous experience in the palm oil supply chain.
4. Proficiency in sensitization, data collection techniques, and mapping using shape files.
5. Strong background in providing training sessions, specifically in the context of Best Management Practices (BMP).
6. Demonstrated ability to coach and support smallholders in the implementation of regenerative agriculture, with a focus on palm oil production.
7. Able to develop and maintain oil palm demonstration plots.

 

Desired Qualifications

1. Team comprises around 5 people or CSO with a relevant degree in agriculture, environmental science, sustainable development, or a related field.
2. Familiarity with the cultural and socio-economic context of Jambi, Indonesia.
3. Demonstrated success in achieving project targets and delivering tangible outcomes in previous assignments.
4. Flexibility and adaptability to work in dynamic and challenging environments.
5. Ability to adjust strategies based on feedback and changing project requirements.

 

Reporting Line

The selected Team or CSO will be contracted to SNV, and all results will be submitted to SNV for review and final approval. The Team or CSO reporting line will go through the Project Manager directly.
