Profile of USAID Prevent TB Project

Indonesian Tuberculosis (TB) program has been facing the continued challenges in response to TB. One of the issues is the low coverage of TB Prevention Treatment (TPT) – 2% that is far from achieving the national target of 68% in 2030.

USAID is supporting the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (MOH) to develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that leads to behavioral changes that pave the way to increase of TPT enrolment among those who are vulnerable and at risk for TB. It is very important to identify various target audiences, especially among the communicators and influencers, that include health workers/workers, professional associations of related health service providers, TB and HIV counsellors, community/religion leaders, and others to mobilize eligible people to come to health services and start the TPT program.

USAID Prevent TB is a five-year USAID funded project to Support for Public Education and Communication to TPT Acceleration that is implemented by YPH. This program will use evidence-based health communication program implemented to improve the coverage and outcome of TPT among eligible sub-population in six (6) target provinces with the highest number of estimated TB latent cases (North Sumatera, DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, East Java, and South Sulawesi). The grants also will be managed by YPH in partnership with Lentera Kesehatan Nusantara (LKN), Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI), and the Jaringan Indonesia Positif (JIP), as well as technical support from Project HOPE International.
