Saleh Bay MPA Senior Project Officer 

(Code: SBM-SO)

 

 

Konservasi Indonesia (KI) is seeking a qualified and motivated individual as Saleh Bay MPA Senior Project Officer. The Senior Project Officer will provide administrative, research and programmatic support for the project implementation in Saleh Bay for whale shark conservation and ecotourism initiative. The Senior officer will be the main liaison with key stakeholders in West Nusa Tenggara such as the Department Marine and Fisheries and the Department of Tourism. This position will coordinate technical aspects in the program implementation and report directly to the Focal Species Conservation Coordinator but will also coordinate closely with team member in Sunda Banda Seascape in ensuring the implementation of the program activities are delivered in high quality and timely manner, according to the workplan.

 

The task will mainly focus on providing technical support for Focal Species Program related management and policy development, including review and enter data and perform preliminary research, support technical aspect of whale shark based MPA, conservation and tourism project in Saleh Bay, providing activity report for the project implementation, draft reports and presentations, edit documents, and help develop communications for partners/donors, attending and facilitating meetings with the related government agencies, perform relevant local agencies and institutional engagement in advancing conservation and management of whale shark in Saleh Bay.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Act as primary liaison with the Department of Marine and Fisheries of West Nusa Tenggara Province, including the Marine Protected Area (MPA) management body in supporting the development and implementation of whale shark based-MPA, conservation and ecotourism initiative in Saleh Bay

·       Work together with local youth community and science team in Focal Species Conservation Program to establish community-based whale shark monitoring program.

·       Work closely with tourism operators, local operators, and local guides to promote and implement whale shark responsible tourism practice.

·       Support development of community livelihood within Regencies of Sumbawa and Dompu to be involve in whale shark ecotourism.

·       Provide inputs and support the development of project in Saleh Bay.

·       Support both technical and management aspects of marine protected area management and whale shark management in Saleh Bay.

·       Promote our work through publicity activities, materials, and displays, including scientific publication/journal, online/printing article, book, events/expo, etc.

·       Support the Coordinator in collecting M&E data for project implementation.

·       Perform other duties as requested by the Supervisor to support Konservasi Indonesia's Marine Program portfolio. 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Contribute to organizing technical meetings, workshops, and training courses on focal species conservation.

·       Assist in identifying and developing tools and resources that help build capacity and advance KI's policy, science, and program development agenda.

·       Maintain project files and related databases. Secure information and data with appropriate back-up procedures.

·       Perform related duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor's degree or equivalent university degree in biology, marine science, or natural resource management.

·       2 - 4 years of related work experience, preferably in conservation NGO.

·       Good command of spoken and writing English and Bahasa. Good attention to detail and proofreading and research skills.

·       Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.

·       Service focus. courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work effectively with others.

·       Ability to work under tight deadlines and often under difficult circumstances.

·       Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.

·       Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under supervisor direction.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

·       Previous experience of conservation and tourism is highly desirable.

·       Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills are highly preferred.

·       Strong passion for species conservation is preferred.

·       Good team player.


WORKING CONDITIONS

·       Work is performed in a typical office environment which requires field trips to sites and other location if needed.

·       Close engagement with government agencies virtually and physically

·       Flexibility to work outside normal work hours to meet deadlines as needed
