The internship program offers final-year university student in Jakarta the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in development project communications, outreach, and marketing, with a specific focus on advancing Indonesia's self-reliance to protect marine biodiversity by improving sustainable and equitable management of fisheries.

The internship program offers final-year university student in Jakarta the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in development project communications, outreach, and marketing, with a specific focus on advancing Indonesia's self-reliance to protect marine biodiversity by improving sustainable and equitable management of fisheries.
The USAID/Indonesia Ber-IKAN Activity, which is a five-year project operating until July 2027. The Collaborative Fisheries Management or "Ber-IKAN" Activity seeks to advance Indonesia's self-reliance to protect marine biodiversity by improving sustainable and equitable management of fisheries. It contributes to the 2020-2024 USAID Indonesia Country Development Cooperation Strategy, and focuses on the following four main objectives:
1. Improved adoption of and compliance with evidence-based fisheries policies for priority fisheries.
2. Strengthened small-scale fisheries governance.
3. Increased government and market-based incentives for sustainable seafood products.
4. Improved protection of ETP marine species affected by fishing practices

OBJECTIVE
To equip final-year communications students with practical skills and experience in stakeholder engagement, strategic outreach, event support, and storytelling to advance the project's goals of fostering community awareness, buy-in, and advocacy for sustainable fisheries management and marine conservation in Indonesia.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Stakeholder Contact Database Development
• Tasks:
a. Research and compile contacts of key project stakeholders, including government representatives, local NGOs, community leaders, industry contacts, and media.
b. Regularly update the database with new information and verify existing contact details for accuracy.
c. Segment contacts into target groups (e.g., government, local organizations, small-scale fishers, journalists, and so on)
• Deliverables:
a. An organized and accurate stakeholder database with contact details for a minimum of 500 verified stakeholders by the end of internship.
b. Monthly status updates on database additions and revisions.
2. Targeted Outreach Campaign/Marketing Development and Execution
• Tasks:
a. Collaborate with the communications team to design a targeted outreach campaign/marketing campaign to promote USAID Ber'IKANs' objectives, initiatives, and achievements to key stakeholders.
b. Draft personalized emails, WhatsApp messages, and other outreach materials that highlight USAID Ber-IKAN and MMAF's goals and objectives.
c. Track outreach metrics (e.g., delivery rate, engagements, and response rate) and compile feedback to enhance future marketing efforts.
• Deliverables:
a. A minimum of six targeted marketing campaigns with at least one report summarizing outreach metrics and audience responses per campaign.
b. A final marketing campaign outreach report with an assessment of campaign reach and recommendations for future improvements.
• Tasks:

b. Coordinate event logistics, including invitations, registration, and on-site (or virtual) setup.
c. Develop event materials, including agendas, flyers, and post-event reports.
• Deliverables:
a. At least two detailed event preparation checklists and summaries, including roles, tasks and timelines for each event.
b. Event recap reports for each event that include key takeaways, and any follow-up actions.
• Tasks:
a. Assist with planning and execution of project-related events, such as workshops, training sessions, webinars, etc.
b. Coordinate event logistics, including invitations, registration, and on-site (or virtual) setup.
c. Develop event materials, including agendas, flyers, and post-event reports.
• Deliverables:
a. At least two detailed event preparation checklists and summaries, including roles, tasks and timelines for each event.

• Tasks:
a. Plan and organize at least three webinars on topics relevant to stakeholder interests, such as sustainable fisheries management, community-led conservation, or climate adaptation strategies.
b. Coordinate webinar logistics, including scheduling, invitations, speaker preparation, and technical setup.
c. Assist in post-webinar follow-up, including sending thank-you notes, conducting participant feedback surveys, and preparing summary reports.
• Deliverables:
a. Three completed webinars with attendance records and feedback summaries.
b. Post-webinar reports including key insights, participant feedback, and recommendations for future sessions.
• Tasks:

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Must be self-motivated with a willingness to learn and adapt.
• Currently enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor's degree program in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. Candidates from Environmental Science or International Relations with a focus on communications are also encouraged to apply.
• Basic knowledge of digital marketing tools, and content management systems is preferred.
• Fluent in written and spoken English with excellent written communication skills.
• Demonstrate ability to research, organize, analyze, and summarize information quickly and accurately.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to conduct interviews and gather information.
• Well organized, able to work independently, skilled in handling multiple tasks, with ability to adhere to deadlines.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Demonstrated experience using software applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, PowerPoint and other graphics applications) is preferred.
• Self-starter with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who takes initiative.
• Foundational coursework in digital marketing, public relations, content creation, or project communication is preferred.
REMUNERATION
USAID Ber-IKAN will provide the intern with a daily stipend to support their participation in the program.
