The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, under its "Energy Programme Indonesia/ASEAN" umbrella, plays a pivotal role in supporting Indonesia's ambitious energy transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future. GIZ Indonesia Energy Programme acts as a technical implementer, working in close collaboration with Indonesian government ministries and agencies, the private sector, think tank, academia, non-profit organizations, and various stakeholders to achieve program objectives. The core objective of GIZ's engagement is to empower Indonesia in achieving its national energy and climate targets. This includes significantly increasing the share of renewable energy in its energy mix, aiming for 23% by 2025 and 34% by 2030, en route to a larger share by 2060 and ultimately achieving Net-Zero Emissions (NZE) by 2060. These efforts are aligned with Indonesia's Vision 2045 and its commitments under the Paris Agreement. A critical near-term goal is to peak power sector emissions by 2030.
Under the umbrella of the Energy Programme, GIZ is implementing numerous of projects in Indonesia, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as well as the International Climate Initiative under the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), including implementation of several projects funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI), including but not limited to: "Sustainable Energy Transition in Indonesia (SETI), PN 21.9022.1-001.00.
The SETI programme anchored in Indonesia with the political partner: Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, specifically at the Directorate of Renewable Energy, and the Directorate of Energy Conservation and implemented by GIZ Indonesia. The SETI programme aims to support the development of an effective institutional regulatory, and financial ecosystem that demonstrates the Indonesian embarkment towards a sustainable energy transition through pilot projects in industry and built environment and loop back results, lessons learnt and experiences to the national level for the design of a relevant and comprehensive policy framework.
To support the thematic area, we seek one (1) motivated and qualified Indonesian candidate for:
The Trainee will perform the following tasks:
- Under direct supervision of GIZ Advisors, support through stakeholder mapping and desk reviews to profile financiers/investors, in the context of assisting the team's engagements and communications channels with relevant stakeholders.
- Assist GIZ sustainable energy finance team in documenting and consolidating engagements results with industry stakeholders and financiers/investors, e.g., through MoMs, updating of existing standard decks, and datasets, under direct supervision of GIZ Advisors.
- Under direct supervision of GIZ Advisors, conduct research and data support through documentary research on energy efficiency and renewable energy financing e.g., through data recording from stakeholder engagements, and assisting with product formatting. Development of brief derivative products (e.g., factsheets, articles, brief catalogues) are also preferrable as options.
- Under direct supervision of GIZ Advisors, support the team in processes related to potential transactions/partnership agreements between project owners and investors/financiers through administrative support, e.g., minutes of meetings, scheduling.
- Support administrative tasks
- Support the team on data entry and tracking for post-event reporting and materials for results-based monitoring.
- Assist the team in performing administrative duties and performing tasks.
- Support the coordination with the communications team in supporting exposure or outreach or content related to the Sustainable Energy topics.
C. Required qualifications, competences, and experience.
- Bachelor's degree or final year master's student in economics, business administration, business management, sustainable development, public finance, international relations, environmental sciences.
- Basic knowledge and familiarity on sustainable energy finance and energy transition issues specifically in the Indonesian context.
- Basic knowledge/awareness in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Financing issues in Indonesia.
- Experience in conducting research, working on event management, stakeholder engagements, and working on data analysis
- Experience in government relations and working in international development organizations will be an advantage.
- Good communication, organizational and project management skills.
- Good command of Ms. Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Proficiency in English and excellent writing skills.
- Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an international working environment.
