The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations. Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis. GIZ has been working in Indonesia since 1975 and formally with ASEAN since 2009 on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
GIZ’s ASEAN Green Recovery project aims to strengthen the integration of Sustainable Finance into the financial systems of ASEAN member states. It focuses on developing enabling regulatory and policy frameworks while providing direct advisory support to financial institutions and regulators.
Key thematic priorities include fostering the development and use of Sustainable Finance instruments—such as thematic (eg green) bonds—as well as supporting the creation and implementation of Sustainable Finance taxonomies in selected ASEAN member states. A particular emphasis is on building a capacity development-oriented Sustainable Finance Support Hub in ASEAN, including a digital engagment platform to promote matchmaking between borrowers and investors/banks in the region.
The project works in close collaboration with financial market actors and regulatory authorities to promote sustainable economic development and align financial flows with climate and sustainability goals.
