Batang Toru Project Officer

Konservasi Indonesia is seeking a qualified and motivated individual as Batang Toru Project Officer in Batang Toru Landscape – North Sumatra, to implement project. Batang Toru Project Officer is responsible for implementing and overseeing program activities within the Batang Toru Landscape in collaboration with the field team based at the Sidimpuan site office. The position plays a key role in delivering programs focused on biodiversity conservation and community livelihood development, while serving as the primary liaison with local stakeholders, including the Forest Management Unit (KPH) and District Government. In addition, the Batang Toru Project Officer is responsible to ensuring the smooth implementation of field activities and maintaining positive relationships with local communities and partners.
The Batang Toru Project Officer is responsible for developing work plans and field activity reports, including the capacity to design and deliver a series of capacity‑building trainings for beneficiaries aimed at strengthening forest management in their respective areas. This position will report to Batang Toru Program Manager and based in Tapanuli Selatan (Sidempuan). This position will work closely with other teams in the field office and KI staff in Sundaland region and Jakarta Office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Develop periodic project work plans, including timelines and project performance indicators, and prepare regular project progress reports.
· Implement all stages of project activities, particularly biodiversity conservation and community livelihood strengthening activities, in accordance with the approved work plan.
· Ensure that field activities are implemented on time, in compliance with procedures, and meet quality standards, while coordinating directly with field teams and senior project management.
· Organize and implement project activities together with implementing partners, including providing technical and coordination support to ensure smooth and high-quality project implementation.
· Participate in the implementation of biodiversity and socio-economic surveys, as well as documenting and managing data from restoration sites.
· Participate in the development and implementation of community-based forest monitoring systems, including supporting the operationalization of cross–Forest Management Unit (KPH) patrol teams.
· Conduct intensive coordination with area authorities, such as Forest Management Units (KPH) and local governments, to support the implementation of project activities.
· Establish, maintain, and strengthen collaboration with local stakeholders, communities, and other relevant partners.
· Ensure that all project activities are aligned with project objectives and frameworks, including project document management as well as documentation and publications derived from field activities.
· Support the development of project communication materials and ensure that all project documents and archives are properly, systematically, and easily accessible.
· Work closely with the Batang Toru Program Manager and field staff to support the development of project implementation strategies, including exploring and applying integrated approaches.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required (critical to successful job performance. Applicants not meeting required skills may not be hired)
· Minimum bachelor’s degree (S1) in Biology, Forestry, Social Science, Agriculture, Landscape, or other natural resources management–related disciplines, with at least 2 years of experience in forestry, conservation, and/or sustainable development projects. Experience in the Batang Toru Landscape, North Sumatra, is highly preferred.
· Demonstrated understanding of forestry, conservation, and development issues at the regional level, particularly within landscape-based or community-based approaches.
· Strong ability to work and communicate effectively in cross-cultural settings, engaging constructively with a wide range of stakeholders from public institutions, local communities, and partner organizations.
· Strong interpersonal skills with a flair for diplomacy, including experience or demonstrated ability in negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, networking, and facilitation at various levels.
· Proven track record of working successfully as part of interdisciplinary conservation or development project teams, with high levels of self-motivation, initiative, and commitment to achieving project objectives.
· Willingness to travel frequently, work long and flexible hours, including occasional work in remote areas and outside regular office hours (weekends or evenings) when required.
· Good verbal and written communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia, with working proficiency in English considered an asset.
· Demonstrated computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as experience using electronic communications such as email and internet-based platforms.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
· Proven experience working with Technical Implementation Units (UPT) of the Ministry of Forestry, including National Park Authorities and Natural Resources Conservation Agencies (BKSDA), as well as Regional Technical Implementation Units (UPTD) such as Forest Management Units (KPH).
· Proven ability to deliver tangible results, independently prioritize tasks, and develop and manage project implementation schedules.
· Demonstrated capacity to define clear objectives and expected outputs in alignment with project indicators, and to complete assignments accurately and on time.
· Ability to contribute effectively to efficient and effective project operations, positively influence team performance, and adapt to changing workloads and project demands.
· Strong resilience and ability to work under pressure, manage multiple deadlines, and maintain high-quality performance within dynamic project environments.
· Demonstrated strong passion for conservation issues
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Ability to work an irregular schedule including weekends, travel extensively and on short notice, when required.
· Ability to work in a remote location for periods of time, when required
· Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain.
