PROGRESS REVIEW CONSULTANT - NUSATANI PROGRAM
SurfAid is a non-profit organization which aims to improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of people living in isolated regions connected to us through surfing. SurfAid has worked in four locations in Indonesia: Mentawai Islands District in Sumatra Barat, Nias District in Sumatra Utara, Bima District in NTB and Sumba Barat District in NTT. We work in the areas that are considered the most remote, with limited infrastructure and few community empowerment programs working there.
We are currently implementing a five-year program called NUSATANI, in Sumba Barat and Bima. NUSATANI's long-term goal is to improve the economic status and food security of remote communities in five villages in Parado Sub-district, Bima and four villages in Laboya Barat Sub-district, Sumba Barat. This program uses a Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture (NSA) approach. NSA is an approach that seeks to maximize the contribution of agricultural activities to improving community nutrition status. NUSATANI program has been running since 2019 and is now entering the beginning of the 4th year.
Entering the fourth year after having resumed activities full time for several months and getting more insights from the real implementation on the ground, we will need another adaptive management and realistically looking at the team's capacity, to be able to ensure good sustainable results.
As we were planning to conduct an evaluation at the midpoint of the implementation period, we will use this to have a wider scope 'Progress Review' to be conducted by external and independent consultants. The purpose of this Progress Review is to be able to see more objectively the results that have been achieved and provide strategic recommendations for future steps.
Therefore we are recruiting a consultant team to conduct the Progress Review with the following specifications in Sumba Barat and Bima.
CONSULTANT QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 5 years' experience of research/survey/assessment/evaluation in the subjects of: agriculture, market, nutrition and child health, preferably for International NGOs;
Experience working in isolated islands/rural areas.
Understanding of Bima & Sumba Barat context would be a big advantage;
Good English (written and verbal);
Familiar with participatory approaches;
Able to work independently.
