Yayasan Rumah Energi (YRE) was established in 2012 in the social and humanitarian fields. The organization is mandated to contribute and create positive impacts on poverty alleviation, strengthening the livelihood of grassroots' communities, adaptation and mitigation to climate change and assisting in disaster risk reduction through innovation and shared knowledge. Our flagship program is the Indonesia Domestic Biogas Program (BIRU). BIRU has facilitated the installation of 27,909 biodigesters in 16 provinces across Indonesia. The program has impacted over 129,684 people among which 27.912 people are farmers; trained 1,458 local masons; 153 local partner including Micro Finance Institutions, SMEs and universities. YRE has also been providing social business incubation assistance to women entrepreneurs through our Pro Women, Puan (Desa) Inspiratif programs and Sustainable Cacao Farmers and Organic Fertilizer Market (SCORE) Project.
Start in January 2023, YRE with funding from Climatework Foundation will implement a year project named the "Building the Foundation for Local Cooperatives as Agents of Change in Sustainable Micro Financing" Project in Jakarta. The Project's objective is to setting the foundation for policy-makers and local cooperatives to identify the gaps in sustainable micro-finance sphere; how to strategically position cooperatives in climate finance; and formulate strategies for local cooperatives to transition into financial institutions that have strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) policy. Currently, YRE is looking for a Micro Finance Researcher to support the Project in achieving its objective, milestones and KPIs. The Micro Finance Researcher will be based in Jakarta.
I. Task and Responsibilities
The Micro Finance Researcher will be under the direct supervision of the Project Manager.
The Micro Finance Researcher will be tasked to develop Operational Guidelines on sustainable microfinance transitions for local Indonesian cooperatives. The Micro Finance Researcher also has the following duties:
- Conduct and collect data from beneficiaries for baseline, need assessment, monitoring and evaluation purposes
- Developing research tools and analysis plan
- Identify policy gaps regarding sustainable micro finance.
- Conduct a desk review of the current policies and regulations governing Indonesian cooperatives
- Conduct stakeholder and interest mapping
- Work with project team in organizing series of workshops with selected cooperatives and partners to establish a consensus on policy gaps in sustainable micro finance and guidelines required for cooperatives in their transition to sustainable micro-finance institutions.
- Work with project team in making a draft Policy Paper on the potential role of Indonesian cooperatives in sustainable financing and develop Operational Guidelines on sustainable microfinance transitions for local Indonesian cooperatives;
- Together with the team in finalize and submit the Policy Paper and Guidelines to relevant government and non-government stakeholders
- Performs other duties and tasks at the request of management
II. Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
The Climate Policy Researcher is expected to have the following qualifications:
· Educational background of Bachelor's degree in the field of Economics or management.
· At least 5 years' experience in micro finance and climate financing
· Experience in research and data collection, and have strong knowledge in micro finance and sustainable financing issue.
· Able to develop and maintain good relationships with government agencies/institutions at all levels, non-government organization, and civil society organizations.
- Excellent writing skill in English is required for reporting purposes.
- Ability to make reports in a structured and informative manner
III. Term of Employment
The appointment is a full-time position of 40 hours per week. YRE offers a one-year contract.
