As we are constantly expanding, we are currently hiring to fill the following position for our office in Kupang, NTT:

 

Sunda Banda Conservation Coordinator

(Code: SBC-C)

 

 

 

Konservasi Indonesia (KI) is actively working in Lesser Sunda and Maluku to develop locally managed marine area (in Sumba) and species conservation (Whaleshark in Teluk Saleh) and to establish MPAs in Belu and Wetar. To support the Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan to expand the Marine Protected Areas in Indonesia, also known as its 30x45 (30% of Indonesian water protected under Marine Protected Areas by 2045), KI will work together with Provincial Dinas Kelautan dan Perikanan to establish a network of Marine Protected Areas in Lesser Sunda and Maluku.

 

Sunda Banda Conservation Coordinator will play a dynamic and important role in supporting both national and provincial government's program focusing on the development of MPA in Lesser Sunda and Maluku. The successful candidate will be outgoing, a self-starter and have a high cultural sensitivity. This will involve implementation with several KI projects in NTB, NTT and Maluku, working with communities, private sector, and government. This position will report to the Sunda Banda Ecoregion Manager with regular communication to Sunda Banda Ecoregion Director and other relevant manager.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Provide support to KI regional (field) team on implementation of the project activities on MPA design, establishment and management.

·       Participate in field missions to assist in the implementation, monitoring, and review of field projects.

·       Collaborate with government agencies, local communities, indigenous groups, and other relevant stakeholders to foster partnerships and promote community-based conservation efforts. Facilitate participatory processes to ensure inclusivity and local ownership of conservation initiatives.

·       Provide technical support, training, and guidance to local partners and community members on marine conservation strategies, sustainable fishing practices, ecosystem management, and other relevant topics.

·       Foster collaborations and partnerships with NGOs, academic institutions, private sector entities, and other stakeholders to leverage resources, knowledge, and expertise. Seek opportunities for joint initiatives and innovative solutions to address marine conservation challenges.

·       Prepare timely and accurate reports, progress updates, and other documentation as required. Ensure proper documentation and archiving of project-related information, including lessons learned and best practices.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Contribute to organizing technical meetings, workshops, and training courses on MPA related topics.

·       Assist in identifying and developing tools and resources that help build capacity and advance KI's policy, science, and program development agenda.

·       Maintain project files and related databases. Secure information and data with appropriate back-up procedures.

·       Perform related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

·       Master's degree in marine biology, fisheries, environmental science, conservation management, or a related field. A strong academic background in marine ecology, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem management is preferred.

·       Two years of relevant experience in marine conservation, preferably working with MPAs or similar protected areas. Experience in field research, data analysis, community engagement, and policy advocacy is highly desirable.

·       Have a deep understanding of marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and conservation principles. Have a familiarity with marine protected area management strategies and best practices.

·       Proficiency in conducting field surveys, data collection, and analysis.

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia.

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.

·       Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement and community outreach.

·       Dependable, enthusiastic, versatile, and responsible;

·       Collaborative, yet decisive, and able to work independently;

·       Demonstrated problem-solving skills;

·       Strong work ethic, organizational, financial, and time management skills;

·       Effective relationship builder exercising tact, sensitivity, and discretion at all times.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

·       The successful candidate will be based in Kupang.

·       Work is performed in a typical office environment which requires visits to project sites and other locations such as Mataram, Ambon and Moa.

·       Willingness to work flexible hours to support conferences and meetings in different time zones.
