The Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Delivery Unit (JDU) supports the Government of Indonesia and JETP partners in accelerating the implementation of Indonesia’s energy transition priorities. The JDU serves as a coordination and delivery support mechanism, with a focus on supporting the advancement of priority projects/programmes, facilitating coordination among relevant stakeholders and identifying implementation bottlenecks.
Within this framework, the JDU works closely with government institutions, international development partners, financial institutions, project developers, and other relevant stakeholders to support the realization of Indonesia’s energy transition agenda. The JDU also supports knowledge management, progress monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication to enhance transparency and facilitate effective coordination across JETP - related activities.
The JETP Delivery Unit contributes to the broader transition from the initial establishment and planning phase of JETP towards an implementation-oriented approach. Key areas of work include supporting the advancement of renewable energy deployment, project and programme realization, financing mobilization, coordination of technical assistance, and communication of progress and results.

Trainee on Project Monitoring Assistance
A. Responsibilities
The Trainee on Project Monitoring Assistance will support the JETP Delivery Unit’s team in monitoring the progress of JETP priority projects, maintaining project monitoring systems, tracking implementation issues and bottlenecks, and supporting follow-up with relevant stakeholders.
The position offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in project monitoring and implementation support within an international development cooperation environment and to develop an understanding of the challenges involved in implementing a multi-stakeholder energy transition programme. The trainee will work closely with the JDU Coordinator and team members and will contribute to the systematic monitoring of priority projects, identification of implementation issues, and preparation of project status updates and monitoring materials.
B. Tasks
The aim of the traineeship with the JETP Delivery Unit is to provide the trainee with practical insight into the workings of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), international development cooperation, and the implementation and monitoring of a complex energy transition programme involving government institutions, development partners, financial institutions, project developers, and other stakeholders.
As part of the learning process, the trainee will work closely with and assist the JDU team in the following areas:
- Support monitoring of JETP priority projects and their implementation progress
- Maintain and update project monitoring trackers, databases, and other monitoring tools
- Support the identification, documentation, and tracking of project-level bottlenecks, risks, and implementation issues
- Support coordination and follow-up with relevant stakeholders on outstanding project issues and agreed actions
- Assist in preparing project status updates, dashboards, and monitoring reports
By the end of the traineeship, the trainee is expected to have:
- Practical understanding of project monitoring, implementation tracking, and issue management in an international development cooperation environment.
- Experience in collecting, organizing, analysing, and presenting project-level information for monitoring and reporting purposes.
- Improved ability to identify, document, and track project bottlenecks and follow-up
- actions involving multiple stakeholders.
C. Required qualifications, competences, and experience.
- Bachelor's degree (or final-year student) in Engineering, Project Management, Public Policy, International Relations, Communications, or other relevant disciplines.
- Previous internship or volunteering experience in development projects, NGOs, or research institutions is an advantage.
- Knowledge of sustainable development, energy transition, climate change, international development cooperation, or related concepts is desirable.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Good command of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Good command of English and Bahasa Indonesia (spoken and written).
- Ability to work in a team and to adapt to an intercultural working environment.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and across multiple concurrent workstreams.
