Position summary

At the Rainforest Alliance we are looking for a collaborative and results oriented Sector Lead Palm to join the Corporate Partnerships team as part of Markets Transformation. Markets Transformation is the strategic process of intervening in a market to create lasting change in market behaviour by removing barriers and/or utilizing opportunities to accelerate the adoption of all sustainable sourcing practices and landscape investment. The Sector Lead Palm will be responsible for defining a clear palm sector strategy and recommending impactful strategies toward the goal of palm sector transformation. In addition, the individual will identify opportunities for engaging in field projects for palm as well across other sectors in the unit. As part of this, the palm sector lead will convene cross-functional teams drawn from relevant departments in order to co-create sector plans and facilitate alignment of these plans with wider organisational objectives and goals.

The individual will also manage global key account managers in the sector to identify and leverage concrete market opportunities that accelerate farm and forest impact. Sector leads will lead markets strategy with global multi-stakeholder platforms in their relevant sectors. The sector leads will drive sector strategies on behalf of markets and will work closely with other relevant market departments, regions, and Advocacy & Themes.

The individual will lead scoping and business development to facilitate corporate and institutional investment and identify and design holistic partnerships with companies that advance the implementation of their sustainability commitments and Rainforest Alliance’s vision on comprehensive transparency and inclusion of independent smallholders in palm supply chains and sourcing landscapes.

Responsibilities:

Drive and refine the palm sector strategy for markets, including the advancement of the Palm Industry Platform and corporate investment into the landscape value proposition;
Ensure strategic and thematic alignment of the palm strategy and Palm Industry Platform business development opportunities with the organization’s strategic plan, internal teams and the Region’s annual plans;
Position Rainforest Alliance as a thought leader on sustainability in the palm sector and cultivate change agents within said sector, including representation at key events;
Ensure the development of a robust approach and successful update to field based partnerships in the palm sector including outcome KPIs to evaluate and report on return on investment for market partners with the relevant internal teams;
Ensure the growth of demand for Rainforest Alliance sustainability offerings in the palm sector including field-based partnerships that include smallholders and mapping their supply chains to through the PIP;
Manage key palm sector accounts, stakeholders and platforms on behalf of the markets team, including the RSPO relationship for RSPO PalmTrace; and
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities including hiring; mentoring and evaluating; guiding professional development opportunities; and addressing employee relations issues.

QUALIFICATION:

Bachelors degree in related field;
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience;
Deep knowledge and awareness of palm sector and field level partnerships;
Experience in building and working well in cross-functional teams;
Experience in successfully managing large strategic corporate accounts;
Strategic and analytical thinker;
Strong communication skills and gravitas to be able to serve as a spokesperson for the organization;
Collaborative and solid record building and working in teams; and
People management experience
